Answers to common questions about Herehood — for artists, businesses, art lovers, and anyone curious about how we work.
About Herehood
The basics
Herehood is a community-first platform connecting local artists with small businesses that have spare wall space. We give artists display opportunities beyond galleries and help businesses transform bare walls into rotating exhibitions — in communities everywhere.
We believe every surface has a story, and that those stories belong to the neighbourhoods they are in.
Herehood works in any community. When you sign up, you tell us your neighbourhood and the platform shows you artists, spaces, and events near you.
If you are the first person in your city, you are helping to build something — and we will support you.
Herehood is run by a small team who care about local art and creative communities. We earn revenue through a 10% commission on artwork sales and optional business services. A portion of all corporate revenue flows to the Herehood Community Fund, which supports artist grants, free events, and education programs.
Community and governance
The Community Fund is funded by 20% of all corporate revenue and any revenue that exceeds our stream-specific caps. It is governed by a Community Advisory Board of four to six volunteer members — artists, business owners, and art lovers — who have genuine decision-making power over how money is allocated.
The Fund supports:
Our rotational equity algorithm guarantees minimum impressions to all artists, regardless of follower count, sales history, or commercial appeal. Discovery never concentrates on a small group.
We prohibit bestseller labels, sales leaderboards, and public sales counts. Every quarter, a community-elected board reviews an Equity Audit measuring visibility and opportunity distribution. Results are published publicly.
Community Advisory Board positions open for nomination every 12 months. Members serve one-year renewable terms and attend quarterly meetings with published minutes.
You can also contribute by submitting feedback through your dashboard or attending community events.
