Is Herehood free for artists?

Yes. Creating an account, uploading artworks, browsing spaces, sending requests, and messaging businesses are all permanently free. This is a binding commitment, not a marketing claim. Our Ethics Code prohibits charging artists for access, discovery, or community participation. A free account is a full account.

How do I find a wall space?

Browse the Spaces directory, filter by suburb, size, and style, then send a display request directly from any space page. Businesses can also post Open Calls when they are looking for a specific style — you can browse those and apply. Once your request is accepted, you message the business directly to arrange timing and installation.

Do I need to be a professional artist?

No. Herehood is open to artists at all stages — students, hobbyists, emerging artists, and established professionals. You do not need gallery representation, a formal exhibition history, or a certain number of followers. We believe the best measure of readiness is having work you care about and wanting to share it with your community.

What commission does Herehood take?

Accepted Answer

We take a 10% platform fee on artwork sales processed through Herehood. You receive approximately 90% of the sale price, minus standard Stripe payment processing fees of around 2.9%. For context: Saatchi Art takes 35%, Artfinder takes 33%, and Etsy takes around 13%. Our 10% is deliberately low. No commission is charged on display arrangements. If your work is displayed and no sale occurs, we earn nothing.

How do I get paid?

Connect your Stripe account from your artist dashboard — this takes about five minutes. When an artwork sells, Stripe transfers funds directly to your bank account. We never hold your money. You can also sell work in person or via your own channels — Herehood has no exclusivity requirement.

Is print-on-demand available?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but it is strictly opt-in. If you choose to enable it, you can offer prints of your work through the Herehood shop. The same 10% commission applies to print sales. We never prompt or suggest print-on-demand to artists who have not asked about it. Enabling or disabling it has no effect on how your original work is discovered.

How are artists discovered on Herehood?

Discovery is governed by our rotational equity algorithm, which guarantees minimum impressions to every artist regardless of follower count, sales history, or time on the platform. You will never need to pay to be discovered. Visibility is a right, not a product. We publish an annual Equity Audit showing how visibility is distributed across the community.

Can I see how my work is performing?

Yes. Your artist dashboard includes a 30-day analytics chart showing profile views, artwork views, shortlist additions, and enquiries. A weekly digest email also summarises which artworks were viewed and which spaces drove the most scans.

Yes. Creating an account, listing wall spaces, browsing artists, connecting, and messaging are all free for businesses. Optional paid services — curated matchmaking, sponsorships, corporate programs — are available for businesses that want extra support. No business is ever required to pay to participate meaningfully.

How do I list my space?

Accepted Answer

Create a free account, choose "Business" as your role, and complete your profile. Then add your wall space — describe the dimensions, lighting, and vibe, and upload a photo. Artists can browse your space and send requests. You can also post an Open Call if you are looking for a specific style or theme. There is no application process, no approval queue, and no fee.

Do I need to pay artists to display their work?

No. The typical arrangement on Herehood is that artists display for free in exchange for visibility and the opportunity to sell. Some businesses do offer a small space fee — that is between you and the artist to negotiate directly. Herehood does not mandate or standardise display fees.

What are the optional paid services?

Three optional services are available for businesses: - Curated Matchmaking ($49-$199 per project): we find the right artists for your brief. - Business Sponsorships ($15-$30/month): fund rotating visibility in your suburb. Artists are equity-algorithm selected. - Corporate Art Programs ($500-$5,000/project): white-glove curation for larger venues and workplaces.

How does curated matchmaking work?

You tell us the brief: the dimensions of your space, the style of your venue, your customer base, and your preferred mood. We provide a shortlist of artist recommendations tailored to that brief. Every curated shortlist of three or more artists must include at least one emerging artist.

How do I buy artwork on Herehood?

Browse the Shop, filter by style, price, or medium, and click any artwork to see the full detail. Click "Take it home" to complete the purchase through Stripe — payments are secure and funds go directly to the artist.

You can also discover artwork by scanning a QR code at a Herehood venue.

Who do I buy from?

Accepted Answer

You buy directly from the artist. Herehood facilitates the transaction and takes a 10% platform fee. The artist receives around 90% of the sale price.

We never mark up prices or hold inventory. Every price you see is set by the artist.

You receive a Herehood Certificate of Authenticity PDF by email — including the artist name, artwork title, medium, dimensions, sale date, and a unique certificate number.

Shipping and collection logistics are arranged directly with the artist.

Yes. Follow any artist from their profile page and you will receive a weekly digest of their new artworks, upcoming open calls, and exhibition events.
